Microsoft's GitHub faces a new AI-native rival in Brazil
Former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke's startup, Entire, has expanded its distributed Git hosting network to Brazil to challenge Microsoft's dominance.

Microsoft Corp.’s dominant developer platform, GitHub, is facing a new competitive challenge in South America's largest economy. The AI-native developer platform Entire has expanded its distributed Git hosting network to Brazil, bringing local data residency and high-speed code repositories to the region. The move directly targets GitHub, the industry heavyweight where the world's software developers store, review, and collaborate on code.
Brazil represents a critical battleground in the global cloud and software infrastructure race. The country boasts one of the largest developer communities in the world and the largest in South America. By establishing local servers, Entire allows Brazilian engineering teams to host private repositories domestically, bypassing the latency of routing code through North American data centers and helping enterprises comply with local data sovereignty regulations.
The threat to Microsoft's developer dominance is led by one of its own former executives. Entire was founded by Thomas Dohmke, who served as the CEO of GitHub from 2021 until August 2025. Under Dohmke's leadership, GitHub launched Copilot, which popularized AI-assisted programming. Dohmke left GitHub to launch Entire in February 2026, raising a $60 million seed round that valued the startup at approximately $300 million. Notably, the round was backed by prominent venture firms and included Microsoft's own venture fund, M12.
Entire is designed specifically for the era of AI-driven software development, where autonomous AI agents—rather than just humans—write a rapidly growing share of code. The platform replaces traditional "pull requests" with a system called Trails, which uses automated AI agents to review and score code changes instantly. According to Entire, its decentralized Git network can execute code pushes up to 89 times faster than GitHub. However, this performance metric is a company claim and has not been independently verified.
By adding Brazil to its network alongside the US, the EU, India, and Australia, Entire is positioning itself to capture high-growth emerging markets where developer populations are expanding rapidly. As AI agents continue to accelerate the pace of software creation, the battle over where that code is hosted and reviewed will directly impact the enterprise cloud market.
