The European Union confirmed an import ban on Brazilian beef, poultry, honey, and other animal products, effective September 3, 2026, over the country's alleged failure to control the use of antimicrobials in livestock production, putting a US$1.8 billion export market at risk. The total market value for these products reached approximately US$1.8 billion in 2025, with beef and chicken accounting for over US$1.7 billion of that total, directly impacting the revenue streams for Brazil's largest listed protein companies. The measure will exclude Brazil from the bloc's list of approved third-country exporters and comes at a sensitive political time, just months after the EU-Mercosur trade agreement provisionally entered into force.
