The transition to Brazil’s new Dual-VAT system reached a critical operational phase this week, as companies in the regular tax regime were forced to immediately update their internal systems to include test tax data on electronic invoices, or risk having their sales documents automatically rejected. As of August 3, 2026, the regulatory grace period ended, making it mandatory for all compliant electronic tax documents (like NF-e and NFC-e) to contain specific fields for the federal Contribution on Goods and Services (CBS) and the state/municipal Tax on Goods and Services (IBS). Documents missing these fields are being automatically blocked by state tax authorities, a shift that presents an immediate liquidity and operational threat by directly impeding the ability to issue legally valid sales and shipping invoices.
