Itaú Unibanco Posts R$ 12.6 Billion 3Q26 Profit Amid Market Shifts
Itaú Unibanco reported a recurring net income of R$ 12.6 billion for the third quarter of 2026, maintaining a 23.6% return on equity despite recent domestic market volatility.

Itaú Unibanco Holding S.A. reported a recurring net income of R$ 12.6 billion (approximately $2.2 billion) for the third quarter of 2026 on November 3, 2026, according to its quarterly financial disclosures. The bank achieved a return on equity (ROE) of 23.6% for the quarter, maintaining its position as Brazil's most profitable large private lender.
The performance represents a 6.7% increase in recurring managerial results compared to the same period last year. This growth occurred during a period of notable volatility for Brazilian assets. Following the country's late-October presidential runoff election, the Brazilian real experienced downward pressure against the US dollar. While broader domestic market indices declined as investors evaluated public policy directions under the incoming administration, Itaú’s private management structure and capital position helped insulate its operational performance from macroeconomic shifts.
Credit Quality and Steady Margins
While state-controlled competitors face direct exposure to changing government credit policies, Itaú's autonomous management kept its risk indicators stable. The bank reported a 90-day non-performing loan (NPL) ratio of 2.0% for the third quarter of 2026, indicating that its lending standards remained tight even as domestic interest rates remained elevated.
Itaú's ability to maintain its profitability levels was driven primarily by solid client margins and structured credit growth. Although the bank adjusted its 2026 effective tax rate guidance to a range of 28.0% to 29.0%, it left its core growth projections unchanged. This operational stability contrasts with state-run peers like Banco do Brasil, which are more directly exposed to political mandates and policy shifts.
For global investors tracking Latin American financial markets, Itaú Unibanco trades in New York as an American Depositary Receipt under the ticker ITUB.
