Brazil’s BNDES Unlocks R$180 Million Green Finance for Amazon Restoration in Highly Deforested Pará Region

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) has announced R$180 million in financing from its dedicated Climate Fund to support a large-scale ecological restoration project in the state of Pará. The financing, which translates to approximately $35.4 million at the current exchange rate of R$5.085 per dollar, is earmarked for a 40-year concession to restore 10,346 hectares of degraded land within the critical Triunfo do Xingu Environmental Protection Area (APA). This investment provides a concrete mechanism for green finance, converting public funds into long-term environmental remediation in one of the Amazon’s most volatile regions.
