Brazilian healthtech startup MedToken is preparing to launch its first public offering of blockchain tokens backed by medical shift receivables on the Mercado Bitcoin platform. The upcoming launch, scheduled for this bimester, marks a shift for the platform, which has previously limited its tokenized assets to private offerings. By opening these assets to the public, the initiative introduces a digital fixed-income asset class to retail investors.

The underlying assets are backed by hospital receivables. MedToken's business model addresses liquidity delays in the healthcare sector: while medical professionals typically wait 30 to 90 days to receive payments for completed hospital shifts, MedToken advances these payments—often on the same day—at a discount. The startup then tokenizes the corresponding credit on the blockchain. When the hospital settles the original debt, investors who purchased the tokens receive the principal amount plus interest.

Since launching its operations, the startup has tokenized over 4,000 shifts across 40 hospitals. This operational footprint has driven a 73% growth in gross merchandise value (GMV) over the last 11 months. The expansion comes amid a broader institutional push for real-world asset (RWA) tokenization in Brazil, bridging traditional financial receivables with decentralized infrastructure.

This public offering arrives during a period of active trading across Brazilian digital asset platforms. By leveraging Mercado Bitcoin's established distribution network and regulatory framework, MedToken aims to scale its liquidity pool, offering retail market participants direct access to healthcare-backed digital assets.
