Buser Acquires AI Firm Designa to Pivot Into Tech Hub

Brazilian mobility platform Buser has finalized the acquisition of artificial intelligence software house Designa in an acquihire transaction. The strategic move signals a structural shift in the Brazilian road transport sector, as digital platforms increasingly prioritize proprietary machine learning models over physical fleet expansion to drive profitability. The transaction terms were not publicly disclosed, but Designa's founders will integrate directly into Buser’s engineering and software architecture teams.

The acquisition is the latest step in Buser’s broader expansion strategy. It follows a R$ 30 million media-for-equity funding round secured in 2025 with 4Equity Media Ventures, alongside Buser's recent entry into the regulated road transport market through the acquisitions of Expresso JK and Transportes Santa Maria. By absorbing Designa—the firm that originally designed Buser’s first user interface in 2017—the company aims to build a comprehensive technological hub to optimize routes, demand forecasting, and user experience.

Buser currently operates across more than 350 Brazilian cities, serving 14 million registered users in partnership with roughly 300 bus operators. Backed by this new AI-driven framework, the company projects its annual revenue to surpass R$ 700 million in 2026.
