SÃO PAULO — B3, the Brazilian stock exchange (B3SA3), has appointed Eduardo Neves, the former Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Itaú Chile, as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The executive, who brings over 30 years of information technology experience, will lead the exchange's digital transformation, data monetization, and artificial intelligence infrastructure. Neves will transition into his new role over the coming months, succeeding interim technology director Jochen Mielke.

The high-profile hire aligns with B3's aggressive expansion beyond traditional exchange operations into high-margin financial technology and data services. The exchange has steadily built its tech footprint, highlighted by its 62% acquisition of payments startup Shipay and the February launch of Trillia. Trillia serves as B3's dedicated data, analytics, and AI vertical, consolidating previously acquired tech assets such as Neoway, Neurotech, Data Stock, and PD Tech.

For global investors monitoring the Brazil ETF (EWZ) or looking to invest in Brazil, the strategic pivot highlights B3's efforts to diversify its revenue mix away from purely volume-dependent trading fees. In 2025, B3 recorded total revenue of BRL 11.1 billion, representing a 5.2% year-over-year increase. The exchange now services a massive base of 19.4 million individual investors, up from just 1 million in 2019.

This leadership transition comes at a time of broader technological integration across Latin American financial markets, which continue to see active digital asset and fintech adoption. On local digital asset desks today, Bitcoin (BTC/BRL) is trading at 331,627, while Ethereum (ETH/BRL) stands at 9,593.08. Neves’s extensive background in cloud computing, AI integration, and operational efficiency is expected to accelerate B3's capacity to scale these digital and data-driven initiatives.
