Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a new R$10.1 billion (approximately US$1.8 billion) investment to significantly expand its data center infrastructure in São Paulo state through 2034, signaling major long-term confidence in Brazil’s role as a regional hub for technology. The commitment is specifically directed at meeting the rapidly increasing demand for cloud services and generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) from Brazilian customers, marking one of the largest foreign direct investments in the country's tech sector this year. This new spending builds on a previous commitment of R$19.2 billion (around $3.8 billion) that AWS invested in Brazil between 2011 and 2023, placing the company’s total long-term bet on the nation's digital future at over R$29 billion.
