The Brazilian Congress on Thursday approved a measure that zeroes out the 20% federal Import Tax on a massive share of international e-commerce sales, a decision that drastically cuts prices for foreign goods and ignites a new round of competitive pressure on Brazil’s domestic small retail sector. The measure, which now awaits Presidential sanction, was approved by both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate and eliminates the federal levy on packages valued up to US$50 purchased from global platforms like Shein, Shopee, and AliExpress.
