Negotiations between the United States and Brazil have failed to resolve the trade dispute over a combined US tariff of up to 37.5% on certain Brazilian exports, forcing manufacturers to either absorb the steep cost or seek new international markets. The taxes, initially imposed by the previous US administration, remain in place following a video conference in late August between Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, Trade Minister Márcio Elias Rosa, and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, who acknowledged that the first round of resumed talks yielded no substantive progress. The high duties, which can reach 37.5%, are significantly eroding the competitiveness of Brazilian-made goods in the US market, which is a key destination for manufactured products.
