The Organization of American States (OAS) will deploy an Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) to monitor Brazil’s 2026 general elections, with observers present for both the first round on October 4 and a potential runoff on October 25. The OAS and the Brazilian government formalized the mission in mid-August 2026 with an agreement signed in Washington, D.C., marking the fifth time the hemispheric body has sent observers to Brazil’s electoral processes since 2018. Former Chilean Senator and Foreign Minister José Miguel Insulza, who is also a former OAS Secretary General, has been appointed as Chief of Mission for the October vote.
