Major Brazilian labor unions are intensifying their mobilization to pressure the Federal Senate to vote on a measure that would establish a 40-hour work week and eliminate the common “6x1” work scale, less than a month before the October 4 general election. The measure, Constitutional Amendment Proposal 221/2019 (PEC 221/2019), was approved by a Senate committee on September 2, but Senate President Davi Alcolumbre has been accused by union leaders of purposefully delaying the final floor vote to protect corporate interests.
