Ibovespa Rises to 173,295 as Bank Gains Offset Commodities
Brazil's Ibovespa index rose 0.76% to close at 173,295.14 as financial sector gains offset declines in major commodity stocks like Petrobras and Vale.

Brazil's benchmark Ibovespa index (IBOV) rose 0.76% to close at 173,295.14, recovering from earlier losses as a rally in major financial institutions offset downward pressure from heavyweight commodity producers. Lower future interest rate yields and shifting monetary policy expectations supported the domestic banking sector, helping the index secure a weekly gain of 2.95% and break a recent streak of weekly declines.
Large financial institutions led the day's advances on the B3 exchange. Shares of Itaú Unibanco (ITUB4) climbed 1.29% to close at 42.24 BRL, while Banco do Brasil rose 1.4% and Bradesco advanced 1.7%. The banking sector benefited from easing bond yields, which fell across the curve following domestic labor market data and softer inflation indicators.
Conversely, Brazil's state-run oil giant Petrobras (PETR4) fell 1.01% to close at 38.06 BRL, dragged down by a slide in global crude prices as shipping transits through the Strait of Hormuz accelerated. Mining multinational Vale (VALE3) also slipped, dropping 0.65% to end at 78.15 BRL despite stronger iron ore prices. Total trading volume on the B3 exchange reached over 24.1 billion BRL across nearly 3 million transactions.
