Soybean speculative bets surge as Brazil prepares for new crop season

Large commodity speculators are heavily backing a rise in soybean prices, establishing an aggressive bullish stance that could trigger sharp market moves just as South American farmers prepare to plant. According to the latest Commitment of Traders data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), non-commercial traders—primarily hedge funds and large investment managers—held 216,046 long contracts compared to just 38,183 short contracts. With total open interest sitting at 649,027 contracts, this heavily lopsided positioning shows that the world’s most influential financial players are highly exposed to a continued upward trend in agricultural commodities.
