If you hold shares of high-growth digital banking platforms in your brokerage account, a major consolidation move in South America's largest economy is set to streamline one of the market's most prominent financial "super-apps."

On October 19, 2026, Banco Inter S.A., the operating arm of Nasdaq-listed fintech Inter&Co, announced an agreement to acquire the remaining 39.75% stake in its digital insurance brokerage, Inter Seguros, from partner Wiz Co. The buyout is valued at R$ 409.5 million (approximately $72 million USD), which will be paid in full at the closing of the transaction. The move hands Inter&Co 100% ownership of its digital insurance business, allowing it to fully absorb the unit's high-margin revenues.

For global investors tracking the Brazil stock market, this transaction highlights how digital-first banks are shifting from rapid customer acquisition to aggressive margin optimization. Inter Seguros, which operates directly inside the main Banco Inter digital app, currently manages more than 9 million active contracts ranging from life and auto insurance to travel and digital payment protection. In the second quarter of 2026, the insurance unit reported a net income of R$ 37.4 million, representing a 35% growth compared to the same period in the previous year.

Navigating Regulatory Approvals

The transaction marks the end of a partnership that began in 2019 when Wiz Co originally acquired its minority stake in the digital broker. While Wiz Co plans to hold the cash proceeds to strengthen its own balance sheet, Inter&Co is betting that full ownership will allow its executive team, led by Global CEO João Vitor Menin, to launch new products and cross-sell services to its broader banking customer base without sharing the financial upside.

However, the deal is not yet finalized. To complete the buyout, the companies must clear regulatory hurdles from two key Brazilian institutions. The transaction requires formal approval from the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB), which oversees financial stability, and CADE, the country's federal antitrust watchdog. Banco Inter has already filed its initial authorization request with the Central Bank's department of financial system organization.

Inter&Co is listed in New York on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker INTR. The company operates as a digital-only financial ecosystem in Brazil, and its stock is also a common holding in specialized emerging market fintech exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and broader Latin American equity funds.
