Embraer Secures Eight-Jet Follow-On Order from Japan's ANA Holdings, Boosting E2 Backlog
Embraer announced a firm order for eight additional E190-E2 jets from ANA Holdings, formalizing a 2025 board decision.

Brazilian planemaker Embraer on Friday announced it has secured a firm follow-on order for eight additional E190-E2 jets from Japan’s largest airline group, ANA Holdings. The agreement, which formalizes a decision ANA’s board unveiled on July 29, 2025, brings the Japanese carrier’s total firm commitment for the E2 family of regional jets to 23 aircraft, strengthening the Brazilian manufacturer’s presence in a strategically important Asian market.
The new purchase significantly expands on ANA Holdings’ original contract for 15 E190-E2s, which was signed in 2025. For the São José dos Campos-based aerospace firm, this follow-on deal represents a material win, confirming the All Nippon Airways-parent company’s confidence in the aircraft almost two years before the first plane is due to be delivered. The E-Jets, which have been operating in Japan since 2009, are designed for high-frequency, smaller-capacity routes, making them crucial for connecting Japan’s secondary cities to its major hubs.
ANA Holdings President and CEO Koji Shibata emphasized the aircraft are key to the group’s strategy to build a “sustainable regional aviation network in Japan”. He specifically cited Embraer’s technology for its ability to reduce both environmental impact and operating costs. The E190-E2 is prized by airlines for its improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and passenger comfort, particularly on shorter routes where larger jets like a Boeing 787 or Airbus A320neo are often too big to operate profitably.
Delivery of the first aircraft from the total order is currently scheduled to begin in 2028. Furthermore, the Japanese carrier still holds an option to purchase an additional five E190-E2 jets, signaling potential for Embraer’s international backlog to grow further as ANA implements its fleet renewal and expansion plans over the coming decade.
What it touches
The firm follow-on order for commercial jets adds a material boost to the backlog of Embraer S.A., which trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker ERJ and on the Brazilian B3 exchange as EMBR3.
