A legislative proposal is advancing in Brazil’s Congress that seeks to grant a measure of social security to millions of informal gig workers while explicitly shielding digital platforms from being forced to recognize them as formal employees. The bill, dubbed "Micropensões" (Micropensions), proposes a new, complementary private social security plan for workers in the country’s massive informal economy, such as app-based drivers and delivery personnel.
