If you hold shares of international companies in your U.S. brokerage account, keeping track of foreign dividend schedules and tax rules can be a headache. For investors holding Telefônica Brasil S.A.—the major telecommunications provider operating under the brazil vivo brand name—a newly filed regulatory document lays out the exact timeline and figures for an upcoming cash distribution.

In a 6-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) dated October 14, 2026, the company announced that its Board of Directors has approved a gross distribution of R$450,000,000.00 (four hundred fifty million Brazilian reais). In Brazil, this type of corporate payout is structured as "Interest on Capital" (IoC), which is treated similarly to a dividend but comes with specific local tax implications.

For American retail investors, the most critical detail is the cutoff date to qualify for the payment. According to the October 14, 2026 SEC filing, the payout will be distributed to shareholders of record at the close of business on October 26, 2026. After this date, the shares will trade "ex-IoC," meaning anyone buying the stock on or after October 27, 2026, will not receive this specific distribution.

The gross amount declared per individual share is R$0.14081834570. However, because this is structured as Interest on Capital rather than a standard dividend, Brazil imposes a standard 17.5% withholding income tax at the source. This brings the net payout down to R$0.11617513520 per share. When this money eventually reaches a U.S. brokerage account, the depositary bank will convert these net Brazilian real figures into U.S. dollars based on the prevailing exchange rate at the time of payment.

Investors will have to be patient to see the cash. Telefônica Brasil stated in the October 14, 2026 notice that the actual payment will be made by April 30, 2027, with the company's executive board responsible for setting the exact calendar date. This lag of several months between the record date and the actual cash distribution is a standard structural characteristic of Brazilian corporate payouts that foreign investors must navigate.

If you own Telefônica Brasil S.A. (listed in New York as VIV), your account will be credited with the net cash distribution, converted to U.S. dollars, following the final payment date. This asset is also a holding in broad-market exchange-traded funds targeting Latin American equities, such as the iShares MSCI Brazil ETF, which holds a basket of major Brazilian corporations.
