BlackRock builds major stake in paper and pulp giant Suzano
The world's largest asset manager crossed a key disclosure threshold in Suzano, holding over 5% of the Brazilian paper giant's common shares.

The world's largest asset manager has quietly accumulated a major stake in one of the cornerstones of global paper and packaging supply chains, crossing a key regulatory threshold that directly impacts international materials portfolios and exchange-traded funds.
On October 15, 2026, Brazilian pulp and paper giant Suzano S.A. received a formal notice from BlackRock, Inc.. The American asset manager confirmed that its aggregate holdings had crossed the 5% regulatory disclosure threshold, reaching 5.003% of the company's total common shares.
According to Suzano's regulatory filing, BlackRock's position as of October 13, 2026, comprised 62,366,570 common shares held directly in Brazil, alongside 876,317 American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) traded in New York. To round out its exposure, the asset manager also disclosed holding 16,963 cash-settled derivative financial instruments referenced to Suzano's common shares.
Strategic Investment, Not Control
For international investors, Suzano is a critical bellwether for global commodity demand. Headquartered in Salvador, Brazil, it is the world's largest producer of market eucalyptus pulp. The company's massive scale means its performance is deeply intertwined with global packaging, tissue, and paper demand across North America, Europe, and Asia.
In its official communication, BlackRock emphasized that the acquisition is strictly for investment purposes. The asset manager stated that the transaction does not aim to alter Suzano’s corporate control or its administrative management structure.
This massive accumulation comes at a time when global materials sectors are navigating shifting interest rates and fluctuating commodity cycles. By crossing the 5% threshold, BlackRock's increased exposure will automatically ripple through some of its own largest index-tracking products and sector-specific exchange-traded funds that hold Brazilian equities.
