Brazilian soybean farmers in two of the country’s most important production hubs are being forced to delay planting the 2026/27 crop due to a severe dry spell that has left soils critically short of moisture. In Sorriso, a city often called the soybean capital of the world in the state of Mato Grosso, local weather data shows only 6.1 millimeters of rain over the last seven days, coupled with five consecutive dry days. The situation is even more acute in Luís Eduardo Magalhães, a major agribusiness center in Bahia, which has registered a meager 0.5 millimeters of rain over the last week and has seen seven days without meaningful precipitation.
