The United States has opened a temporary, low-tariff import quota for up to 300,000 metric tons of lean beef trimmings, a measure that analysts expect will be dominated by **Brazilian meatpackers** and provide a substantial, unexpected boost to **Brazil beef exports**. The measure, valid for 90 days starting September 1, is designed to increase meat supply and curb rising prices in the US following a decline in the **US cattle herd**. Industry estimates suggest Brazil, the world's largest beef exporter, could supply between 30% and 40% of the newly available volume, or roughly 90,000 to 120,000 tons.
