Afya Ltd., the largest medical education group in Brazil, saw its shares rise 3.24% to close at $14.33 on the Nasdaq exchange today, as investor interest continued to focus on the company's robust underlying fundamentals and its post-earnings valuation story. The move is a significant jump for a company often noted by foreign investors as one of the few Brazilian enterprises with a direct primary listing in the US, bypassing the need for an American Depositary Receipt (ADR).

The current buying interest appears to be a delayed reaction to the company's second-quarter 2026 results, released just over a week ago, which reaffirmed its full-year guidance and showed the core business remains strong. Afya reported a 7.0% year-over-year growth in first-half revenue and an 8.6% increase in basic earnings per share, bolstered by a strong cash flow position and a share buyback program. While profit margins narrowed slightly due to a strategic investment cycle in its digital and continuing education arms, the company’s core business—training new doctors in Brazil—is performing well, with medical student enrollment and tuition rates both up.

The positive momentum has been amplified by analyst commentary in recent days, which has pushed a narrative that the stock remains significantly undervalued. Despite the recent price appreciation, multiple analysts have pointed to Afya’s strong cash generation, low leverage, and consistent dividend policy, suggesting the company's price has not fully caught up to its intrinsic value. This is supported by the firm’s operational metrics, which include a growing number of operating medical school seats and over 26,000 undergraduate medical students.

A further positive development that has buoyed sentiment for the Brazilian education firm is a favorable legal ruling that was announced shortly after the earnings report. Afya secured a legal injunction that lifted prior restrictions on filling authorized medical seats, opening the door for the company to potentially fill those additional spots in the second half of the year. This regulatory win could provide another tailwind to revenue and enrollment figures that are already growing.

What it touches Afya Limited (AFYA) is one of the more accessible Brazilian stocks for individual US investors due to its direct listing on the Nasdaq, bypassing the ADR structure typical of most foreign companies. The company operates in the consumer defensive sector, specifically focused on medical education and technology solutions for doctors in Brazil.
