Global airlines and defense departments are locking in long-term manufacturing slots with multi-year commitments, driving multi-billion-dollar order books for major aerospace companies. This surge in global jet demand has pushed the industry's primary players to accelerate production schedules to turn these massive backlogs into actual deliveries.

Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer announced on October 23, 2026, that its firm order backlog reached an all-time record of $35.7 billion in the third quarter of 2026. This total marks a 3% increase from the previous quarter and a 14% jump compared to the third quarter of 2025, according to the company's official earnings release.

The planemaker's commercial aviation backlog reached $15.8 billion, supported by 72 firm orders for its fuel-efficient E2-family jets year-to-date. Key commercial activity during the third quarter of 2026 included a landmark firm order from Abra Group—the parent company of Avianca and Gol—for 20 E195-E2 aircraft, alongside additional orders from Japan's ANA Holdings and Spain's Binter.

Beyond commercial airlines, Embraer saw significant expansion in its other divisions. The defense and security segment backlog rose 56% year-over-year to $6.1 billion, bolstered by Colombia's acquisition of two KC-390 Millennium military transport aircraft. Meanwhile, executive aviation posted a record backlog of $8.2 billion, driven by the launch of the Phenom 300EV light jet.

Despite the record order book, the company's immediate challenge remains converting these paper commitments into physical aircraft. In its October 2026 operational update, Embraer reiterated its full-year 2026 delivery guidance of 80 to 85 commercial aircraft and 160 to 170 executive jets. Hitting these targets will require a significant manufacturing push in the final quarter of the year.
